After confessing to killing his mother and plotting to kill Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, a former actor on the CW series “Riverdale” was given a life sentence.
At Vancouver’s British Columbia Supreme Court on Tuesday, Ryan Grantham, 24, received his punishment. Additionally, the actor is not qualified for parole for the ensuing 14 years.
Grantham previously admitted to killing his mother Barbara Waite, 64, in the second degree.
In the family’s Squamish, British Columbia home on March 31, 2020, Waite was apparently practicing the piano when her son shot her in the back of the head.
Prosecutors testified during a court in June that the young actor captured his mother’s lifeless body in a GoPro video after the murder.
Grantham allegedly confessed to shooting Grantham in the back of the head on camera. She would have recognized me in the moments that followed, I said.
Prosecutors claim that Grantham wanted to prevent his mother from witnessing the violent crimes he intended to commit following. Lisa, Grantham’s sister, quickly discovered her body.
The actor reportedly loaded up his truck with Molotov cocktails, weapons, and ammunition the day following the murder with the purpose of assassinating Trudeau in Ottawa.
Grantham then decided against carrying out a mass massacre at Simon Fraser University and turned around to where he studied there. He ultimately surrendered that night to the Vancouver Police Department.
Prosecutors contend that the young actor’s emotions of isolation, excessive cannabis use, and online viewing of graphic content contributed to his claimed feelings of sadness and self-hatred.
Grantham reportedly apologized to his family in a journal post that was written the day of the murder and said that “no one” would comprehend him.
Prosecutors claim that he wrote, “I despise myself. I’m so sorry mom, I’m so sorry Lisa.” “There are numerous media outlets featuring me… I’ve spent hundreds of hours on cinema and television, which may be watched and analyzed… Nobody will comprehend.”
According to the CBC, Justice Kathleen Ker observed that Grantham was undergoing counseling while incarcerated and seemed to be making progress.
Teenager Jeffery Augustine was portrayed by Ryan Grantham in the horror-crime series “Riverdale,” which was based on the “Archie” comic book series. He makes an appearance in Season 4 after using his father’s truck to kill the main character Fred Andrews.
His other credits include bit parts in the 2013 film “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and the TV show “Supernatural.”
